Dr Filip Stillaert, MD, FCCP is originally from Ypres, Belgium. He attended medical school at the University of Leuven. After medical school, Dr Stillaert was selected to residency in General Surgery at the University of Leuven (UCL) and sub specialized in cardiovascular surgery. He was selected to the fellowship in microsurgery and tissue engineering research at the prestigious Bernard O’Brien Institute of Microsurgery in Melbourne, Australia. During this periode Dr Stillaert started to get fascinated by fat tissue and its clinical applications. After completing his fellowship in Australia and gaining valuable experience in tissue engineering research, Dr Stillaert came to the University Hospital of Gent in Belgium to specialize in plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgery for another 4 years. He trained at the Department of Professor Monstrey, Professor Blondeel, Professor Van Landuyt and Professor Hamdi. Dr Stillaert stayed at the department where he was trained and is currently part of the medical staff as a consultant plastic surgeon. He dedicated his career to surgical autologous approaches in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery and continued the research in adipose tissue engineering and fat grafting.
