This patient had a DIEP flap breast reconstruction in 1995. She developed breast cancer in the left breast, underwent a mastectomy and reconstruction with an implant covered with a muscle flap (latissimus dorsi flap from the back). She experienced pain and discomfort and presented with leakage of the implant. We removed the left reconstruction and the implant and performed a breast reconstruction with the lumbar flap to achieve a natural result. She is seen after bilateral nipple reconstruction and tattoo.

Patient 1 - Bilateral lumbar flap breast reconstruction

The right breast has been reconstructed with a lumbar flap and 6 weeks later the left breast was also reconstructed with a lumbar flap. Notice the natural shape of the breast. Both nipples were reconstructed followed by a nipple tattoo.

Patient 2 - Bilateral lumbar flap breast reconstruction

Bilateral breast reconstruction with the lumbar flap. The patient has insufficient abdominal tissue to perform a DIEP flap breast reconstruction. However, there is sufficient tissue in the love handle region to perform a lumbar flap reconstruction. There is a delay period of 6 weeks between each surgery. Nipple reconstruction and tattoo.

Patient 3 - Bilateral lumbar flap breast reconstruction

History of bilaterale mastectomy in a skinny patient with insufficient tissue in the abdomen to perform a DIEP flap breast reconstruction. Both breasts have been reconstructed with the lumbar flap, followed by nipple reconstruction and tattoo.

Patient 4 - Bilateral lumbar flap breast reconstruction

A bilateral, primary breast reconstruction with the lumbar flap. A mastectomy (skin sparing) was performed with an immediate reconstruction with the lumbar flap.
